NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING ANNUAL ACTION PLAN for COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT and HOUSING in the CITY OF HICKORY June 19, 2018, 7:00 pm Julian G. Whitener Municipal Building - City Council Chambers 76 North Center Street, Hickory What is the Annual Action Plan? The City of Hickory will receive $307,542 in 2018 through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and approximately $110,000 in program income for a total of $417,542. Funds will be used to develop stronger communities by providing decent housing, creating suitable living environments, and expanding economic opportunities, principally for people of low and moderate incomes. The Annual Action Plan is a yearly update to the City of Hickory's 5 Year Consolidated Plan. The Consolidated Plan is a 5-year strategic vision for housing and community development needs within the City. The Annual Action Plan sets priorities among these needs and sets out the action plan for use of available funds on a yearly basis. This provides for flexibility in determining priorities as the needs of the community change from year to year. The Annual Action Plan will be submitted to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development on or after June 20, 2018 as the City's strategy for administering 2018 federal funds for community development and housing. Community Development Block Grant Program. Funds may be used to help local governments improve deteriorating residential neighborhoods, support public services, install water and sewer facilities for residential areas or to job-creating industrial sites, and provide loans to large and small businesses. What is the purpose of this hearing? This hearing provides you the opportunity to express your ideas about community development in the City of Hickory. The focus will be on the City's needs in housing, public facilities, and economic opportunities for its citizens. Information will be provided on the amount of assistance available in federal funds and the range of activities that will be undertaken. Your comments on the needs that should be addressed and how the City's programs should meet those needs will be considered as the City develops its Consolidated Plan for submission. A draft copy of the City's Annual Action Plan will be available for the public beginning May 21, 2018 in the Planning Department at the Julian G. Whitener Municipal Building, 76 North Center Street, for a 30 day comment period. Persons wishing to comment at the June 19, 2018 public hearing must bring a written copy of their comments for the record. Others may submit written comments no later than June 19, 2018 to - Community Development Department, City of Hickory, 76 North Center Street, PO Box 398, Hickory, NC 28603. The City's plan for providing opportunities for participation is available upon request and will be presented at the public hearing for comment.
