McDowell County authorities said Wednesday they arrested and charged a Marion man who had previously been charged by Marion police after he was shot by a relative.
Detective Lynn Greene of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Lawrence Anthony Walker III, 22, of 26 Carroll St. in Marion, with first-degree sex offense of a child.
Walker is accused of having ongoing inappropriate sexual contact with a female acquaintance who is now 16 and was 6 when it began.
The victim told family members, who then reported it to authorities.
Walker is currently involved in a developing investigation with the Marion Police Department stemming from a recent shooting.
On Monday, Sept. 12 at approximately 4:15 p.m., Marion P.D. responded to 26 Carroll Street to investigate a possible domestic situation involving a gunshot. The investigation concluded that the victim’s aunt and cousin, Cherie Michelle Britt, 46, of Eaglewood Estates, Old Fort and Matthew Lee Goley, 28, of Scott Road, Marion, visited the residence and an altercation ensued. During the altercation, Britt shot Walker in the leg with a small-caliber handgun, police said. Afterward, Walker ran from the residence.
After a search, Walker was located and transported to McDowell Hospital with a single gunshot wound to the left leg. Britt was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill. She was later released on bond. Goley was charged with simple assault and released.
The day after the shooting, Walker was charged by Detective Lisa A. Morgan of the Marion Police Department with felony second-degree forced sexual offense. According to warrants, the alleged crime occurred between March and May of this year.
For the recent charge, Walker received a $150,000 bond.
