More sex offense as well as drug charges have been filed against a Nebo man taken into custody last week.
Lt. Andy Manis of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office originally charged John Wesley Conner, 50, of 65 Gloria Way in Nebo, with three counts of taking indecent liberties with a child and one count of statutory rape.
Conner’s family members reported him missing on Tuesday, Jan. 16, stating he was threatening to harm himself.
McDowell County sheriff’s deputies and detectives began a search for Conner. During their investigation, allegations surfaced that Conner had had inappropriate sexual contact with an 11-year-old female acquaintance on multiple occasions.
The suspect was located and taken into custody early Friday morning, Jan. 19.
Since that time, further investigation has led to more charges.
Manis has added one charge each of statutory sex offense with a child by an adult, taking indecent liberties with a child and altering, stealing or destroying criminal evidence.
Manis said the latest charges stem from inappropriate sexual contact with the same 11-year-old victim. It is also alleged that Conner destroyed computer files regarding a sex offense, according to arrest warrants.
Detective Patrick Guion of the Sheriff’s Office also charged Conner with one count each of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
During Conner’s original arrest, authorities found .30 gram of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in his possession.
Conner’s total bond is currently set at $560,500.
