Twenty-five years ago this week, a local church reached out to our neighbors in south Florida that had been devastated by Hurricane Andrew. The Rev. Allen McKinney and four members of Garden Creek Baptist Church in Marion traveled to hurricane-ravaged Homestead, Fla. The four members were Bill Ballew, Scott Huskins, the Rev. Dean Effler and Doug Murdoch. They traveled 15 hours to the heart of the damaged area and distributed some $50,000 worth of food and goods collected by the church. This photo taken by McKinney shows the destruction to a mobile home park. As of last week, Andrew was the most destructive storm to hit the Sunshine State.
