A motorcyclist was treated for serious injuries following a collision with a reportedly stolen vehicle on Friday, according to reports.
On Friday, March 2 at approximately 5:08 p.m., emergency units responded to Sugar Hill Road near Jack Frost Dairy Bar after receiving reports of a motor vehicle collision involving a motorcyclist.
Marion Fire Department, Marion Police Department, McDowell EMS and McDowell Rescue Squad responded to the call.
According to a press release by the Marion Police Department, the victim, Andrew Blake Huskins of Marion, was traveling on Sugar Hill Road 2003 Suzuki motorcycle when a 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by Dustin Coyt Lawing of Marion, crossed the center line and struck his vehicle head on.
The investigation, completed by Marion P.D. Officer Randy Caudill, revealed that Lawing attempted to leave the scene in the Chevrolet after the crash. Lawing's vehicle came to rest on the property of 2416 Sugar Hill Road. Officers with the McDowell County Sheriff's Office arrived on the scene and were attempting to place Lawing under arrest, due to him having outstanding warrants. Once Lawing was in custody, a search was conducted and uncovered multiple narcotics and a firearm.

Lawing was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of a schedule IV controlled substance, criminal damage to property, possession of a firearm by a felon, resisting arrest and possession of a stolen motor vehicle. He was also charged with seven warrants obtained by the McDowell Count Sheriff’s Office.
Huskins was transported to Mission Trauma Center in stable condition and was released, according to Emergency Services Director William Kehler.
