An inmate was stabbed and seriously injured by another prisoner, authorities said Thursday.

At approximately 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, officers and investigators with the Marion Police Department responded to Marion Correctional Institute on Old Glenwood Road following reports of a stabbing in progress.

According to a press release by Lt. Rusty Jenkins of Marion P.D., the confrontation occurred between 27-year-old Damian Johnson and 33-year-old Michael Wright while in a classroom setting on the premises. The victim, Wright, was transported to Mission Hospital for his injuries.
