Authorities said Tuesday they arrested a Marion man with stealing from an acquaintance.

Detective Paul Alkire of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Dylan James Matthews, 20, of 192 Hampton Ridge Drive in Marion, with breaking and entering and larceny.

He was also charged with a probation violation.

James Walker Cooper III, of Coopers View in Nebo, reported on Aug. 8 that someone stole tools, a firearm and money from his residence. The value of the items was estimated at $1,250.

Cooper and Matthews are acquainted. Alkire said Cooper suspected Matthews of the crime and confronted him, at which time Matthews returned some of the stolen property.

Matthews received a $31,500 bond.
