In the wake of recent tragedy in other states, McDowell County sheriff’s deputies want to help make local churches safer.

Members of the Sheriff’s Office, Marion Police Department, McDowell County Emergency Management and McDowell County EMS will hold a seminar/forum for local church leaders or designees on Thursday, Nov. 16 from 7-10 p.m. at McDowell Technical Community College.

The event is free of charge.

“In light of recent events, local churches have been asking for some kind of safety instruction,” said Sheriff’s Office Training Officer/SWAT Supervisor Kevin Fineberg. “This seminar is going to focus on response to law enforcement- and emergency-related incidents in churches.”

He added that the discussion will focus on security assessments and preventive security measures that will assist law enforcement and emergency personnel as well as church leaders and their congregations.
