Mother, daughter injured in I-40 rollover near Marion

Units respond to a rollover accident on I-40  Friday afternoon.

A Marion mother and daughter were taken to the hospital after their car hydroplaned and rolled over on Interstate 40., authorities said Friday.

Around 12:49 p.m. Friday afternoon, emergency units responded to the 86 mile marker eastbound on I-40 after reports of a car rolling over on the highway.

Glenwood and Marion Fire Departments, McDowell EMS, McDowell Rescue Squad and the N.C. Highway Patrol responded to the call.

According to Trooper J.L. Sanders of the Highway Patrol, the white Ford vehicle, driven by 54-year-old Betty Ann Ward of Marion, was traveling eastbound on the highway when the car began to hydroplane in the rain, clipped the railing of the bridge as she was crossing over and rolled over on its front.

Both Ward and her teenage daughter were taken to Mission Hospital for their injuries.
