Names, details released in two-car collision

Five people were sent to the hospital after a two-car collision in Marion on Wednesday afternoon


Names and details into a two-vehicle collision in Marion on Wednesday afternoon have been released, according to reports.

At approximately 2:55 p.m. Wednesday, emergency units responded to the corner of Baldwin Avenue and State Street after receiving calls of a motor vehicle collision with a rollover.

Marion Fire Department, McDowell EMS, McDowell Rescue Squad and the Marion Police Department responded to the call.

At the time of the crash, a gray Dodge Caravan – driven by 24-year-old Shkyla Theresa Edgerton of Forest City – was traveling eastbound on State Street, at the same time that a red Toyota Camry – driven by 51-year-old Tonya Lynn Howard of Doyle Street in Marion – was traveling northbound on Baldwin Avenue.

According to an incident report by Marion P.D. Sgt. Michael Hensley, Edgerton had not stopped for a stop sign at the Baldwin Avenue intersection as Howard was approaching on her right and struck the Camry, before continuing east on State Street and overturning on the driver’s side.

The estimated damage between both vehicles is $16,000.

As emergency personnel responded to the collision, after-school traffic at the Baldwin and State Street intersection was monitored by police.

Both drivers, as well as three other passengers between both vehicles – 23-year-old Lacie Dawn Branch of Hickory Hill Drive in Marion, 18-year-old Kali Buchanan of Doyle Street in Marion and a 14-year-old passenger in the Dodge Caravan – were taken to McDowell Hospital for with non-life threatening injuries.

Edgerton was charged by Marion P.D. with stop sign violation.
