A Nebo man was sentenced to community service and unsupervised probation in McDowell County District Court after he was found at a school playground with a firearm when school was not in session.

Austin Cody Lamb, 21, of Hensley Park Drive in Nebo, was found guilty of a misdemeanor gun on educational property charge. He was given a 30-day suspended sentence. He must serve 12 months of unsupervised probation. He must perform 24 hours of community service. He must pay court costs.

On Sunday, Sept. 3, the Sheriff’s Office received information that Lamb was on the playground behind Glenwood Elementary School with his toddler-aged daughter and other children and adults and had a gun on his person.

Deputies saw and confiscated the firearm and charged Lamb.
