An Old Fort man was arrested and charged after allegedly trespassing on a dairy farm and stealing a forklift battery, authorities said Wednesday.

Detective Billie Brown of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged David Christopher Lawing, 29, of 20 Sally Knupp Way in Old Fort, with injury to personal property and larceny.

At 1: 35 a.m. on Nov. 17, Deputy Seth Carver responded to 308 Honey Brook Lane in Old Fort. Jeannie Elliott, of Old Fort, reported that Lawing was on the property of the old dairy farm and did not have permission to be.

Further investigation revealed that Lawing had damaged $3,000 worth of electrical wiring and a breaker box and had stolen a $160 battery from a forklift.

Lawing was not placed in jail and did not receive a bond.
