Authorities said Monday they arrested and charged an Old Fort man for allegedly setting fire to his mobile home in October.

Capt. Shanon Smith of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Randy Keith Hensley, 48, of 84 Camp Creek Road, Old Fort, with second-degree arson.

On Tuesday, Oct. 25 at approximately 5 p.m., firefighters and McDowell County sheriff’s deputies responded to an explosion at a mobile home located at 43 Nightingale Drive in Old Fort.

The home, which received an estimated $20,000 worth of damage, was owned by Parker View, LLC, of Shelby, and occupied by Hensley and his mother, Judy James.

An investigation by the Sheriff’s Office, McDowell County Emergency Management, the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms revealed that the blaze was set intentionally.

A Crimestoppers report was released three weeks later on Nov.18, requesting info on Hensley’s whereabouts. He was subsequently found and arrested on Feb. 2.

Hensley received a $10,000 bond.
