A prescribed burn estimated over 3,000 acres is planned for tomorrow in the Grandfather Ranger District.

The U.S. Forest Service plans to conduct a 3,071-acre prescribed burn near the Rose Mountain area on the Grandfather Ranger District, Pisgah National Forest, on Friday March 9.

Whether or not the burn is carried out tomorrow will depend on site-specific weather conditions and smoke modeling data.

The Mountains to Sea Trail from Table Rock Rd (FSR 210) to Steels Creek Rd (FSR 228) will be closed Friday and Saturday.

Some smoke may be visible in the area from Morganton to Jonas Ridge and the Linville Gorge Wilderness Area. All prescribed burns follow smoke management guidelines to mitigate impacts to the public.

The objective of the burn is to reduce fuels to prevent catastrophic wildfire.

The Nature Conservancy will be assisting with burn operations.
