Authorities said Wednesday they arrested a Lenoir man and charged him with stealing firearms out of his friend’s car.

Detective Billie Brown of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Billy Lee Campbell, 23, of Lenoir, with two counts each of breaking and entering a motor vehicle and larceny of a firearm.

Timothy Washburn, of Sunflower Drive in Marion, reported on Wednesday, Sept. 14 that Campbell, with whom he is acquainted and let have access to his car on Aug. 6 and Sept. 13, had stolen a handgun from the vehicle on each occasion.

The two pistols were worth a total of $2,200.

Campbell received a $20,000 bond.
