Authorities said Thursday they arrested and charged an Asheville man with allegedly stealing a washer and dryer set from an unoccupied home for sale.

Detective Paul Alkire of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged William Robert Boyd, 32, of Asheville, with breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering.

It was reported on Feb. 8 that someone broke into a residence on Bethlehem Road in Old Fort and stole a $1,500 washer and dryer set. The house is owned by Claire Danielson, of Black Mountain, but was for sale and unoccupied.

An investigation led to Boyd, who was living with friends on Bethlehem Road at the time of the crimes.

The washer and dryer were recovered.

Boyd received a written promise to appear in court.
