A Morganton man was arrested and charged after deputies uncovered almost four grams of meth while searching for another suspect, authorities said Friday.

Detective Patrick Guion of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Johnathan Andrew Akers, 37, of 104 Redbud Lane in Morganton, with possession of methamphetamine.

On March 27, Sheriff’s Office detectives and members of the U.S. Marshals Service went to 70 Indian Waters Drive in Old Fort looking for a fugitive.

They didn’t find the wanted suspect, but another man onsite, Akers, was acting suspiciously. A subsequent search of Akers’ person turned up 3.9 grams of meth.

Akers’ bond was set at $10,000.
