Authorities said Monday they arrested and charged an Alabama motorist with possessing meth while driving in the wrong direction.

Deputy Aaron Vallini of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Ronald Joseph Austin, 59, of Geneva, Ala., with possession of methamphetamine.

At 12:35 a.m. on Saturday, June 3, Vallini assisted Lt. Derrick McGinnis with a traffic stop at the intersection of U.S. 70 and U.S. 221 North. McGinnis had stopped the automobile for driving northbound in the southbound lanes.

A subsequent search of the car turned up 4.1 grams of methamphetamine.

Austin received a $7,500 bond.
