An Old Fort man was arrested and charged with cocaine and pot offenses during a probation search, authorities said Friday.

Detective Paul Alkire of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Elliot Lontrel Young, 38, of 53 Baptist Church Road in Old Fort, with possession of cocaine and possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana.

On Thursday, Aug. 30, Alkire assisted state probation and parole officers with a search at Young’s home. Young is a registered sex offender from a Buncombe County conviction in 2003, and warrantless searches are a condition of his post-release supervision.

During the search, authorities found .6 gram of cocaine and 2.6 grams of marijuana, as well as cash.

Young was issued a $15,000 bond.
