A Burnsville man was arrested and charged after deputies found a half-gram of meth during a traffic stop, authorities said Tuesday.

Deputy David Jones of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged William Brandon Autrey, 32, of Burnsville, with possession of methamphetamine.

At 4:17 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, Jones stopped a vehicle at the intersection of U.S. 70 West and the U.S. 221 bypass for traffic violations.

Dakota Hughes, 25, of Spruce Pine, was driving the car. He had outstanding warrants from Mitchell County for failure to appear in court.

A subsequent search of the automobile turned up .5 gram of meth belonging to Autrey, a passenger in the vehicle.

Hughes was taken into custody on his outstanding warrants.

Autrey’s bond was set at $10,000.
