A Marion woman was arrested and charged with allegedly breaking into someone’s car and using their debit card, authorities said Thursday.

Detective Billie Brown of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Amy Leigh Brown, 41, of 195 Tice Drive in Marion, with breaking and entering a motor vehicle, obtaining property by false pretense, larceny, possession of stolen goods, financial card theft and financial card fraud.

Sidnei Rhymer, of Marion, reported on Tuesday, Dec. 12 that someone had stolen her wallet and its contents from her car while the vehicle was being repaired. The person then used one of her debit cards to purchase gasoline from Pilot Truck Stop on Sugar Hill Road.

An investigation led to Amy Brown, who investigators say broke into Rhymer’s 1988 Mercedes-Benz while it was being repaired and took the victim’s wallet.

Brown’s bond was set at $2,500.
