A Marion man was arrested and charged after he was spotted leaving with his neighbor’s wood stove, authorities said Tuesday.

Deputy Steven McPeters of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Jonathan James Stroud, 32, of 800 Hicks Chapel Loop in Marion, with breaking and entering and larceny.

Steven Gouge reported on Sunday, Nov. 19 that he spotted Stroud pulling a wood stove on a hand truck down Gouge’s driveway on Hicks Chapel Loop. Gouge recognized the stove as belonging to his father, Claude, went to Claude’s residence on Hicks Chapel and found the stove missing.

The stove, valued at $600, was recovered.

Stroud’s bond was set at $12,000.
