The year, 2004. My location, behind the wheel of a dark-green Saturn waiting for a train to finish crossing the tracks on Baldwin Avenue. My mood, pumped, because I had purchased a copy of Green Day’s “American Idiot” CD and I was finally getting a chance to listen it.
Hearing those first few tracks of “American Idiot” after school will be something I’ll always remember, not only because the CD was great, but because Green Day voiced an angst that every tween/teen/twenty-something/frustrated person has felt.
Over the years, my musical tastes have changed dramatically, but I still reach for my Green Day CDs when I’m in a mood. While scrolling through my newsfeed on Facebook earlier in the week, I came across a review of Green Day’s latest release “Greatest Hits: God’s Favorite Band,” which features beloved tracks by the band like “Welcome toParadise” as well as a new song “Back in the USA.”
Although I can’t get back my first car, the youthful glow I had at 17, or the amazing ripped jeans that I was sporting the day I first listened to Green Day’s “Rock Opera” album, I can enjoy their latest release in the comfort of my own home.
If you’re a Green Day fan, this album is a must purchase. Copies of “Greatest Hits: God’s Favorite Band” can be purchased at all music retailers and through most streaming services.
