I think as children we all wondered why Cinderella had glass slippers, why Jack from “Jack and the Beanstalk” smelled so bad, and why Little Red Riding Hood didn’t recognize the wolf that was wearing her deceased grandmother’s clothing.
These questions have vanished from my mind over the years and in there place have come adult inquiries like “Do I need gas?” and “How do you know when jelly has gone bad?”
During a rainy Sunday indoors, I found “Revolting Rhymes” on Netflix.
The two-part film is based on Roald Dahl’s book of the same name and follows characters like Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood and The Big Bad Wolf, and how their tales have been sugar-coated over the years.
Not to spoil anything, but according to “Revolting Rhymes,” Jack from “Jack in the Beanstalk” could be smelled by the Giant because Jack wasn’t fond of bathing.
Each part of the film is 30 minutes and makes for great entertainment. If you were a curious child with a lot of questions about fictional characters that were never answered, I suggest you watch the British film.
You’ll find out who Cinderalla really ended up marrying, what Little Red Riding did to the Big Bad Wolf and many more nontraditional endings to the stories we’ve all grown up hearing.
“Revolting Rhymes” is available for streaming on Netflix and can be rented or purchased on Amazon Prime or at most video rental stores.
