During the week of Oct. 1, 1992, a new state historic marker was put up to commemorate the Battle of Cane Creek during the American Revolution. The marker was placed on U.S. 64 near Dysartsville to signify the only Revolutionary War battle fought in what became McDowell County. At the dedication of this marker were N.C. Rep. Bob Hunter (left) and Albert Dale and his young son Nelson. Albert Dale made the original request for this marker. They are flanked by re-enactors with the Overmountain Victory Trail Association.
