On Saturday, folks were able to get an early start with their Christmas shopping at McDowell’s most important historic site. Historic Carson House held its local market and Christmas shop from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday underneath the Jubilee Arbor. Some of the vendors were (pictured) XYZ beer, wine and spirits; English Farmstead Cheese; Mr. Bob’s Do-Nuts; Dee Knives; Perfectly Posh by Karin Conley and Melissa Catterton; and Historic Carson House’s apple butter and crafts. The others were Hand Made with Care Wreaths, Happy Body Care, Poverty Hill Wood Carvings, Theresa Davy Pocketbooks and Bowls, Hemlock Pottery, Anita Fletcher’s homemade pet crafts, Darcy Ward (wooden jewelry), Lularoe and Young Living. Volunteers with the historic home served hot dogs and barbecue plates for lunch.
