A job fair will be held Thursday at the Bentley Center.
More than 30 employers will be on-site and, with the exception of one or two businesses, all jobs will be local, said David Bradley, president of the Greater Statesville Chamber of Commerce.
“We hear from employers that they need people to work, yet we hear from parts of our community that there aren’t jobs available,” Bradley said. “There must be a communication gap. Our hope with the job fair is to join with many service organizations to bridge that gap, to bring jobs and job seekers together.”
Representatives from ICATS will also be on-site to discuss transportation issues.
“This is an attempt to take the job opportunities into an area in which unemployment is high,” Bradley said. “Our co-hosts will be providing one-on-one assistance to folks who will be coming through seeking jobs.”
From 1-4:30 p.m., attendees will get a look at more than 150 jobs available in the Statesville area, Bradley said. Representatives from Mitchell Community College will discuss trades such as masonry and HVAC service.
The chamber is co-hosting the event with the City of Statesville Human Relations Commission, Fifth Street Ministries, Statesville Housing Authority, Yokefellow Ministry, Iredell Christian Ministries and Goodwill.
