An app for horror fans: ‘Hooked’ will keep you awake at night

By clicking the screen, viewers get another text message that adds to the horror story they’re reading on Hooked.

I’ve always been a fan of horror movies. I think my love for spooky tales probably comes from my mom’s love of all things paranormal.

I can remember watching episodes of “America’s Most Haunted” and “Haunted History” when I was in first and second grade.

By the time I was in middle school my sister and I were obsessed with movies like “Final Destination” and “I Know What You Did Last Summer.”

Over the years, I’ve lost touch with the horror genre. Movies like “It” and “Annabelle: Creation” just don’t interest me. I like “edge of your seat” horror that makes your heart race and your mind wonder into dark places.

That’s why a new app has rekindled my interest in spooky stories.  “Hooked” is an app that allows you to follow a text message conversation between two fictional characters. During their conversation something eerie or spooky happens. Because you only see one text message at a time, suspense builds and you don’t know where a story is going.

The first few stories you see on the app are free. After that, you’re asked to subscribe to the service for  $4.99 a week or $14.99 a month. I’ve not taken the leap yet and signed up for the app, but I recommend it to anyone looking for something to give them the chills.

Hooked can be downloaded on Apple and Andriod phones.
