Juniors and seniors will set out tonight on one for one of the most memorable nights of their lives.

McDowell High School's prom will be held at the Deerpark Restaurant at Biltmore Estates tonight from 8 p.m. to midnight.

This year's theme, "A Midsummer Night's Dream" was chosen by the Student Council juniors. This is the second year that prom has been planned and implemented by the junior class. The students choose the location, theme, decorations, food and deejay. Student Council sophomore and freshmen classes are also involved in the setup of the dance.

“This has been an incredible experience for our students to be involved in. Being able to give students the task of planning a prom allows them to see how event planning actually works, down to having a budget, restrictions and sometimes inclement weather,” said Alison Garrett, student council advisor. “My students have to step outside of their own preferences and really think about what the majority of students would want. It has been a very rewarding experience for these students to see what they are capable of accomplishing on their own.”

Prom King and Queen will be announced at the dance. The pair is voted on by their peers.
