An employee of a local repair shop has been charged with stealing a customer’s car, authorities said Thursday

Capt. Ricky Crisp of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Nicholas Jay Beddingfield, 33, of Catawba River Road in Old Fort, with felony larceny of a motor vehicle. He was taken into custody in lieu of a $15,000 bond.

David and Kim Hostetter, of Asheville, left their 2004 Mercury Sable at Advance Body and Repair shop, on Hopewell Road in Old Fort, in January.

The vehicle was stolen on Jan. 6, and an investigation revealed that Beddingfield, an employee of the repair shop, allegedly took the Mercury.

Beddingfield was located and arrested Tuesday, and the $8,000 vehicle was recovered.
