Update: Emergency Management: 226 North is reopened

Update:

McDowell and Mitchell county emergency services were on the scene Monday afternoon of 226 North with an overturned single-wide mobile home. The roadway was completely blocked for several hours, but was reopened by Tuesday morning.

 Detours were set up with local traffic travelling 226A and commercial vehicles travelling 221 North. Two patients were treated and transported one with non-life threatening injuries to Blue Ridge Hospital and the second patient was air-lifted to Mission Hospital with serious injuries.

Woodlawn Fire department, McDowell Ems, McDowell Emergency Management, Parkway Fire, Mitchell EMS and the N.C. Highway Patrol assisted with the accident.

As of 6:11 p.m. Monday, McDowell Emergency Management is reporting that N.C. 226 (Coxes Creek) is shut down due to a traffic accident.

Emergency personnel are on the scene. Road is expected to be shut down for several hours. Please avoid this area.

Motorists should travel on N.C. 226A.
