Deputies find large meth stash

Narcotics officers stumbled upon a stash of meth last Tuesday on Old Fort Mountain, according to a report released Monday from the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office.

The report said investigators found eight ounces of crystal methamphetamine in a wooded area off Interstate 40 eastbound near the first sand pile.

Detectives are in the investigative process, trying to locate possible suspects.

The Sheriff’s Office declined to release any information about how deputies were alerted to the drugs.

The street value of the meth is $10,000.
