A Morganton man has been charged with stealing metal from his employer and selling it for scrap.

Detective Billie Brown of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Bobby Lee Woody, 40, of Valley Trail in Morganton, with one felony count each of larceny by employee and obtaining property by false pretense.

Woody was employed at Morganton Pressure Vessels, on Alfredo Baglioni Drive in Marion, for about a year.

Brown said, between April 11 and 14, Woody allegedly stole a steel backing bar from a seam welder and 100 welding tips and welding nozzles, worth a total of $2,000, from the business.

Brown added that the suspect sold the equipment to a scrap yard for $108, and it was destroyed.

Woody was taken into custody in lieu of a $15,000 bond.
