Authorities said Friday a Marion man was charged with stealing and Porsche and trying to sell it for scrap.
Detective J.T. Grindstaff of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Royce Jeffery Ollis, 40, of Greenlee Road in Marion, with felony larceny and felony obtaining property by false pretense.
On March 17, Randall Woody, of Raleigh, reported that someone stole his 1982 Porsche, valued at $2,000, from a residence on Old Clear Creek Road in Marion.
Grindstaff said Ollis called a junk yard to get the vehicle from Old Clear Creek Road so he could scrap it. One of Woody’s neighbors saw the car being taken and notified authorities.
The Porsche was recovered.
Ollis was taken into custody in lieu of a$20,000 bond.
