This special event will take place at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19 at the Historic Marion Tailgate Market Shelter, located at 67 W. Henderson St. in Marion. There, folks will share with their neighbors a dish that was prepared with locally sourced ingredients. Ingredients can be obtained from your garden, Tailgate Market, roadside stand or other local market. Meat and drinks will be provided, according to a news release.

Seating will be provided for 100 people. Entertainment will be provided by Sorella Jack.

“A $10 donation at the door is suggested. Money raised will be used to buy fresh, local produce to stock food pantries that feed our community's food insecure,” said organizers.

The event is being held by the McDowell County Center of the N.C. Cooperative Extension. Sponsorships are available.

McDowell County is making progress towards establishing a community food and health hub. Such a hub would help local farmers with selling their goods while providing food to those in our community who need it the most. It will also promote healthier eating in McDowell, according to the leaders of this effort.

The organizers of the Aug. 19 event are asking folks to RSVP by Friday, Aug. 11.

You can call 828-652-8104 or email Molly_Sandfoss@ncsu.edu to RSVP.

“Please share with us the name of your dish, local ingredient(s) used, and recipe,” reads the news release. “We wish to create a cookbook with all the shared recipes using local ingredients.”
