A new business recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the McDowell Chamber of Commerce.
Chamber ambassadors and local dignitaries came together to celebrate the grand opening of M&D Paranormal and Cryptid Research. Their business is located at 49 State St. in Marion.
Owner Mary Goyer is hoping to help residents of McDowell uncover the mysteries surrounding any paranormal activity in their homes or businesses. The service is free and the detection and/or monitoring of any ghostly activity are verified independently by the Warren Institute in Asheville, she said.
Goyer and her team will come to your location with high-tech equipment specially made to detect paranormal activity. She reassures customers that the service and any findings are always confidential. They also conduct cryptid research, the study of creatures whose existence has yet to be—or else cannot entirely be—proven or disproven by science. An example would be Bigfoot or the Loch Ness monster.
The shop carries a variety of items from books and jewelry to spirit boxes. A spirit box is a compact tool for attempting communication with paranormal entities. It uses radio frequency sweeps to generate white noise which, she explained, suggest give some entities the energy they need to be heard.
