M&D Paranormal, McDowell County’s newest paranormal investigation group, has set up shop in downtown Marion at 49 State St.

The office building at the corner of State and South Garden streets provides a place for the paranormal investigators to hold events and meetings about their research into the ghostly and unexplained activities in McDowell and western North Carolina.

At their new office, Mary Goyer, Tess Goyer and Daniel Hurst can meet privately with clients who are interested in using their services to investigate a haunted place.

The new office for M&D Paranormal also has a small shop where you can get T-shirts, crystals, natural salt lamps and salt candle holders. They have EMF meters that they say can detect the electromagnetic frequencies and determine the strength of an energy field along with other electronic devices. The M&D Paranormal office is open during regular business hours Monday through Friday and may be open on the weekends in the future.

Jonnie Sandoval is a master in the ancient healing art of Reiki and she conducts a Reiki circle there once a month, with the next one set for Dec. 18.

At 7 p.m. this Friday, Dec. 8, M&D Paranormal will host a free event featuring Christian MacLeod, founder of the Asheville Cryptid Society.

This organization is devoted to the exploration and discovery of unknown phenomena and alleged cryptid species, such as Bigfoot.

The ACS is “comprised of intelligent scientifically minded individuals who use both modern technology and research methods to discover the truth about the undiscovered and unrecorded lifeforms we share our world with.”

The Asheville Cryptid Society has been noted in The New York Times, The Mountain Xpress and news channel 40 while also partnering with Joshua Warren’s Haunted Asheville tour.

MacLeod has been mentioned on “Coast to Coast” with George Noory, and on Warren’s podcast “Speaking of Strange.” Mary Goyer said M&D Paranormal plans to be involved with the Bigfoot Festival, which is scheduled for September of next year in Marion.
