As the filing period continues, more people have stepped forward to declare themselves as candidates for offices in Marion and Old Fort.

This year, both mayors will be up for re-election. Three seats on the Marion City Council and two seats on the Old Fort Board of Aldermen will be up for election too.

Persons interested in running for the offices can file at the McDowell County Board of Elections in the County Administration Building at 60 E. Court St. in Marion.

As of late Friday afternoon, the following additional people filed last week as candidates for office:

• Louis Parrow (challenger) for Marion City Council. Parrow, 49, is a resident of 115 Lamar St.

• Melvin Lytle (incumbent) for Old Fort Board of Aldermen. Lytle, 46, is a resident of 99 Keaton Road.

• Wayne Stafford (incumbent) for Old Fort Board of Aldermen. Stafford, 62, is a resident of 192 Reservoir Road.

Friday, July 7 was the first day of the filing period. As of now, the filing period will last until noon Friday, July 21.

The municipal elections will be held Nov. 7.
