Wednesday morning, a traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial received a motorcycle escort as it left Marion for Burnsville.
The Wall that Heals, a 250-foot traveling replica of the memorial in Washington, D.C., will be on display in Burnsville for four days from now through Sunday.
Wednesday morning, the Wall and the accompanying education center stopped at the Big Lots parking lot in Marion before traveling up the mountain to Burnsville. Hundreds of motorcycle riders gathered in the parking lot for a prayer before making the journey.
The Wall that Heals will be on display at the baseball field at Mountain Heritage High School and will be open to visitors 24 hours a day. Like the original in Washington, it bears the names of more than 58,000 men and women who gave their lives in the Vietnam War, according to online sources.
This display in Burnsville will be similar to another traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial that came to Marion in May 2011.
