Teachers at West Middle are rallying around two of their colleagues as they deal with unexpected medical expenses and time away from work.

A hot dog fundraiser is set for Monday, Jan. 29 in the cafeteria at West Middle from 3:30-6:30 p.m. For $5, folks can purchase a hot dog, chips and tea, plus entered into basket and 50/50 raffle.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will support the families of Catherine Stewart, an eighth-grade science teacher, and Sarah Wills, a vocational teacher.

Stewart’s son Leroy was in a car accident and suffered a broken neck. He is currently in Atlanta at the Shepherd Center, a leading spine rehabilitation center.

Wills’ infant son Christian was born with a rare intestinal issue that has required multiple surgeries. He has been in the hospital for around four months.

The fundraiser will be held alongside a home basketball game and eighth-grade night at the school. For more information, contact tammy.washburn@mcdowell.k12.nc.us.
