Officer Matthew Huggins, of the Marion Police Department, charged Michael Thomas Brown, 38, of Clinchfield Loop, Marion, with assault on a female, false imprisonment, assault on a child under 12, and felony assault by strangulation.

According to a report by Huggins, on Tuesday at 10: 40 p.m., Brown and his wife had gotten into an argument prior to him going to work. The altercation became physical and the 11-year-old child tried to step in when he was pushed up against the wall by his throat and punched in the stomach. The boy freed himself from Brown and ran to a neighbor’s house and called 911. Brown’s wife suffered a swollen and split lip.
