GREENSBORO - Another doughnut shop is planned for Greensboro, but this one will also feature fried chicken.

Scratch Hand Crafted Donuts and Fried Chicken is opening at 1220-A Battleground Ave.

It is opening in the space formerly Ideal Cabinets at Village at Irving Park in the Midtown section of Battleground Avenue.

Jimmy Chhay is opening the eatery which will serve specialty doughnuts and fried chicken with gourmet sauces.

“I wanted to bring something new to the area,” said Chhay. “I’ve seen the popularity of chicken and waffles and I wanted to do something along those lines.”

Chhay said the eatery will make everything from scratch, in house.

Chhay is no stranger to the food business. The Durham resident operated Chai’s Noodle Bar and Bistro in Durham for several years. He currently operates Buddhalicious Food Truck and Catering out of Durham.

Chhay said he has seen how much Greensboro is growing and decided to try operating a restaurant in the Gate City.

Work on the space is in progress and Scratch is targeted to open in late October or early November.

Chhay said he will soon park the truck for the winter while he focuses on Scratch, but he said to expect the truck on the streets again come next spring.
