A Winston-Salem woman died Tuesday, and her infant daughter was injured when her pickup collided head on with a SUV in northern Davidson County, authorities said.
The crash happened shortly before 5 p.m. when Tonya Michelle Vernon, 41, of Norman Lane, was driving a pickup west on Gumtree Road near Mount Vernon Church Road, said Trooper N.P. Teague of the N.C. Highway Patrol. Vernon's vehicle then crossed the road's center line and struck a SUV traveling east on the road, Teague said.
After the collision, Vernon was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, Teague said. Her 14-month-old infant daughter was taken Brenner Children's Hospital for treatment of her minor injuries, Teague said.
Faroeum Saroeum Soy, 50, of Winston-Salem, the driver of the SUV, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene by emergency medical technicians, Teague said.
No charges were filed in connection with the crash, Teague said.
