One Cedarbrook resident has been charged with choking another resident, authorities said on Monday.

Deputy Derrick McGinnis of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Mark Bess, 28, who lives at the adult care home on Pinnacle Church Road in Nebo, with one felony count of assault by strangulation.

On Thursday evening, July 24, deputies responded to Cedarbrook Residential Center and spoke to Douglas Charles Bryant.

Bryant told them Bess, who is also a resident of Cedarbrook, came into his room and choked him.

McGinnis and other deputies noticed bruising on Bryant’s neck, so Bess was charged.

Bess was released on a written promise to appear in court. No photo of Bess was available.
