Authorities have charged a Marion teenager with raping a 14-year-old girl three years ago, the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
Capt. Shanon Smith, of the MCSO, charged Killy Joe O’Connor, 19, of Marler Road in Marion, with one felony count of rape.
Smith said it is alleged that O’Connor raped a 14-year-old female acquaintance in July 2011 at the residence of one of the victim’s relatives. The victim’s mother reported the incident and this is the only occasion that investigators have been able to identify.
The investigation led to a grand jury indictment against O’Connor and he was charged on April 30.
The indictment states the charge is second-degree forcible rape and. “the defendant unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously did have (sexual) intercourse with a person… and the intercourse was by force and against the will…”
O’Connor’s criminal record showed several pending traffic charges and possession of marijuana that are scheduled for court on May 20.
He was taken into custody and released on a $45,000 secured bond. His first court date is scheduled for June 23 in McDowell County Superior Court at 10 a.m.
