Two people suffered minor injuries when a car overturned Monday morning on Shady Lane in Marion.
Around 11:15 a.m., rescue crews were called to the area of 681 Shady Lane after a car had overturned in the roadway. Two passengers were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Trooper R.W. Monosso said that preliminary investigation showed that the driver of the vehicle was speeding. The vehicle ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected to the left, hit a culvert and then overturned.
A homeowner nearby, who called 911, saw the car going sideways down the road before overturning.
The identity of the driver was unknown at deadline, but one passenger who went to the hospital was identified as Matthew Baldwin, of Ben Street in Marion.
Monosso said charges are pending further investigation.
The Marion Fire Department, McDowell Rescue Squad, McDowell EMS, and the N.C. Highway Patrol responded to the accident.
In a separate accident around 9 a.m., a motorcycle rider was injured at the intersection of Nix Creek Road and Lytle Mountain Road.
According to Trooper M. Childres, Sandra Haymes, of Marion, was attempting to turn left onto Lytle Mountain Road from Nix Creek Road, when she collided with a Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by Christy Kerby, of Marion. Kerby was attempting to turn left on Nix Creek Road from Lytle Mountain Road.
Kerby was transported to Mission Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Both the car and motorcycle only had minor damages. Haymes was charged with a traffic violation.
Sugar Hill Fire Department, McDowell Rescue Squad, McDowell EMS, and the N.C. Highway Patrol responded to the scene.
