E. Arthur Allison, 98, of Old Fort, passed away peacefully Friday, March 9, 2018, at NC State Veterans Home in Black Mountain, with his loving family by his side.
Mr. Allison was born Nov. 9, 1919, in Transylvania County, to the late Alphonzo Allison and Florence Powell. Mr. Allison was a loving father and grandfather. He was a member of Cedar Mountain Baptist Church in Fairview, where he served as a deacon and he attended Ebenezer Methodist Church in Old Fort. Mr. Allison served our country proudly in the United States Army during World War II, earning the American Theatre Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, Good Conduct Medal and a Victory Medal. He worked at Miller's in Haw Creek and also at Ethan Allen in Old Fort. He loved to garden and was known to grow really great watermelons. Mr. Allison also loved to fix things and was the neighborhood handyman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by first wife, Bobbie Allison; his second wife, Lois Allison; a son, Tim Allison; brothers, Kermit, Charles, Edward, Donald Allison; and a sister, Helen Watts. Surviving Mr. Allison are his sons, Phil (B.L.) Allison of West Melbourne, Fla., Frederick Allison of Cookeville, Tenn.; a stepdaughter, Beverly Robinson of Burnsville; grandchildren, Christy (Keith) Branch, Carol (Chris Pittman) Allison, Jeremiah (Vicky) Johnson, Savanah (Thomas) Benge, Patrick (Jewel) Robinson, Megan Robinson, Aleda Lunsford, Gerald Allison; and great-grandchildren, Preston and Elizabeth Branch, and Abigail Johnson.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 12, at Kirksey Funeral Chapel in Old Fort. A funeral service followed the visitation at 8 p.m. Burial with military honors will be held today (Tuesday, March 13), at 11 a.m., at Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbus, N.C.
