Jo Ann Buchanan Edge passed away in her home, surrounded by her loving family Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018.
"Mama Jo's" health had declined for the last several months from heart and lung disease. Her request to stay in her home was honored by her family and Burke Hospice and Palliative Care.
Oct. 16, 1934, was the beginning of her life, born in Mitchell County to the late Brown and Zola Buchanan, a sister to three siblings. Billie Jean B. Westerman of Tampa, Fla., is her surviving sister. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Buchanan; and sister, Judy Leifeld.
Jo's life story consists of meaningful journeys as a loving mother and wife of entrepreneurial husband, Jack L. Edge Sr., together for 65 years of marriage. Of the many accomplishments that span the course of her life, highlights include serving as Girl Scout Leader, Youth Group Leader and sharing her intuitive knowledge of life that reached into the heart and soul of others and her family.
The loving family members who cherish her legacy are daughters, Pamela Edge, Vickie E. West (husband, Jeff); and son Jack Lee Edge Jr. (wife, Rhonda). The heart and soul of Mama Jo's life were her grandchildren, Amy Lee Edge, Justin Bigwitch Edge, Kayla Leeann Edge; and great-granddaughter, Abbie Nicholle Brooks. There are many loving friends who helped fulfill the decades of Mama Jo's life which she cherished and held deeply in her soul.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Burke Hospice & Palliative Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690. Tuesday, Feb. 6, the family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., with services following immediately after.
