Mr. Wayne Elliott, 78, of Marion, passed away unexpectedly at his home Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018. Wayne was a native of Marion, born Dec. 16, 1939, to the late Benjamin Franklin Elliott and Nellie Johnson Elliott.

Following high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army and afterward returned to his hometown. He worked in the construction trade for most of his life. His good-natured personality and great sense of humor earned him many friendships over the years. He had many interests but particularly enjoyed 50s music, especially Elvis Presley, baseball games and westerns on television.

Surviving are three children, Jeff Elliott of Marion, Tammy Self and husband, Eddie of Marion, and Sandy Grant and husband, Chris of Old Fort; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A graveside service with military honors will be held in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 12 p.m.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital at PO Box 1000 Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
