William J. Faw, 93, of Old Fort, passed away Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, at John F. Keever Jr. Solace Center in Asheville, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Faw was born Jan. 1, 1925, in McDowell County to the late Wilson S. Faw and Janie Mae Parker Faw. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Old Fort and a well respected member of the Old Fort community. Mr. Faw served our country proudly during World War II in the United States Navy. He loved the men he served with and he was vigilant about attending each and every reunion he could so that he could see his buddies again. After the war, he came home and joined his brothers and father in the family business, Faw's Plumbing and Heating, Inc. He was a hard worker, and a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He had a small plane pilot's license and enjoyed flying and aerial photography. He also loved to be outside doing yard work, and painting.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Byrd Faw; a brother, James D. Faw; and a son-in-law, Tommy Hoyle.

Surviving Mr. Faw are his son, William "Mark" Faw and wife, Sheila of Old Fort; a daughter, Susan Hoyle of Marion; a brother, John W. Faw and wife, Joan of Newbern; grandchildren, Sara Faw, Jennifer Hall, Scott Nodine, Stacy McKinney and Kathryn Hoyle; and great-grandchildren, Kaleb McKinney, Kinsley McKinney and Charlee Kate Hall.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Mr. Faw, will be held Sunday, March 4, at 3 p.m., at First Baptist Church of Old Fort, with Pastor Andrew Dalton officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Kirksey Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the Faw family with arrangements.
